What decides your campervan’s value

Base van and mileage

Engine, gearbox, cambelt history, how it starts and drives, and corrosion underneath. On a campervan the van leads the figure, so a well-serviced high-mileage example can beat a low-mileage one that has stood unused.

Who built the conversion

A factory or established converter build is valued differently from a self-build. For any conversion we look at the quality of the work, the gas and leisure electrics, and any certificates you hold.

Roof, layout and seats

Pop-top, high-top or fixed roof, the bed arrangement, belted travel seats and whether the layout suits everyday use all affect how many buyers it suits.

V5C body type and paperwork

Whether the V5C shows motor caravan, MOT history, service records and receipts for the conversion. Documents remove risk for the next buyer, and less risk means a firmer figure.

Damp, floor and seals

Damp behind panels, floor soundness, roof vents, pop-top canvas and window seals. Clean readings put a campervan at the top of its range.

Extras and season

Solar, leisure battery and inverter, diesel heater, awning, bike rack and a reversing camera add practical value. Demand rises through spring and softens over winter.

What to have ready

Base van, converter, year, berths and roof type; mileage and MOT expiry; the V5C; service records and any conversion certificates; tyre date codes if you know them; a note of anything that does not work; and ten daylight photos — each outside corner, the interior from both ends, the kitchen, the washroom, the bed areas, the cab, the roof and any damage. If there is outstanding finance, ask your lender for a settlement figure at the same time. With that in front of us, a figure is a firm figure rather than a guess.
