What decides your caravan’s value

Damp and structure

The biggest single factor in any caravan valuation. Recent, clean damp readings put a caravan at the top of its range; a known reading moves the figure predictably rather than dramatically.

Layout and berths

Buyers shop by layout. Family bunk layouts, and couples layouts with a fixed island bed and end washroom, hold demand all year. An unusual layout narrows the pool of buyers.

Age, make and model

Established names and popular models hold steadier second-hand demand. Age matters, but a well-kept older caravan in a wanted layout often values above a newer one in a rare layout.

Condition inside and out

Panels, seals, upholstery and how it presents on the day. A clear-out and a wash genuinely help; large pre-sale spending rarely returns what it costs.

Paperwork and service history

CRiS document or original invoice, habitation and damp records, gas and electrical certificates, all the keys and the handbooks. Documents remove risk, and less risk means a firmer figure.

Running gear, tyres and extras

Brakes, bearings, hitch and tyre date codes — caravan tyres time out long before they wear out. A motor mover, awning, solar or upgraded heating add practical value.

Two caravans, two very different figures

A mid-2010s two-berth kept at home, dry, serviced every year, with all its paperwork, an awning and a motor mover sits at the top of its range. Nothing needs pricing in compared with one that needs repairs, but the final figure is still confirmed on viewing rather than guaranteed over the phone.

An early-2010s four-berth that has stood on a seasonal pitch for five years, with a soft patch by the washroom door, a fridge that no longer lights on gas and no CRiS document to hand is still a straightforward sale — but the figure carries the damp investigation, the appliance and the work of proving ownership. The difference between the two is not luck. It is condition, information and paperwork.

What to have ready

Make, model, year, layout and berths; the CRiS number or original invoice; service, habitation and damp records; tyre age if you know it; a note of anything that does not work; and ten daylight photos — each outside corner, both ends inside, the washroom, the kitchen, the bed areas and any damage. If there is outstanding finance, ask your lender for a settlement figure at the same time. This helps us prepare for the visit; the final price is confirmed on viewing.
